Great figures

This is a good atlas for someone who has some familiarity with skull base/temporal bone anatomy. The illustrations provide a very clear view of the key steps in each procedure without bogging the reader down with "too much anatomy." Attempting to perform the procedures; however, should not be attempted without a good understanding of the anatomy not shown in the figures.

Overall, a great book that shows the "bottom line" steps for each approach extremely well.

One of the best anatomical approach atlases I've seen. If you want to learn skull base surgery this book is a must own. When cross referenced with cadaveric and intraoperative photos, it would be hard not to learn these approaches (this book is all step wise drawings).

Jen Darcy is the coauthor of two Disney Editions books, Disney in Details: A Scavenger Hunt Through the Walt Disney World Resort and Let The Memories Begin!: Impressions of the Walt Disney World Resort. She has been on staff at several Disney-owned magazines: FamilyFun, Disney Magazine, Disney Adventures, and Wondertime. After receiving her master's degree in library science, she became a high school librarian and now manages copyright permissions and is the record librarian at an education publishing company. Jen's favorite villains are Ursula from The Little Mermaid and Shere Khan from The Jungle Book, which she enjoys watching at her western Massachusetts home with her cat, Bagheera.

Misleading

Although this book is beautifully designed and features some great pics, I expected more text on the "creation, inspiration, and fascination." In fact, this book includes very little text. AND half of it is on Pixar villains. Nothing on the book cover or Amazon listing indicated this. I was very disappointed by the space wasted on Pixar. No comparison to the Disney villains. If you want the definitive book on Disney Villains, find a copy of "The Disney Villain" by Hyperion books from 1993. GORGEOUS and featuring essays on each villain.

A Highly recommended book for us Disney fans!!!!

This book is outstanding, I have not yet finished it but its one of those books (for me anyway) that you'll find something new or missed in previous readings. The pages and the look of the pictures are high quality, each page contains a short bio on the character as well as who the voice actor, and a tidbit of information on the development of the character. Each section of the book is color coded down the long side of the page giving it a very nice look when reading and viewing it when closed. This covers from Classic Disney up till today (Zootopia) I highly recommend this book for the Disney Book Collector!!

It concludes with a discussion of key challenges for the future deployment of ontologies in this domain. This book bridges the gap between urban practitioners and computer scientists. As the essence of most urban projects lies in making connections between worldviews, ontology development has an important role to play, in promoting interoperability between data sources, both formal (urban databases, Building Integrated Models, Geographical Information Systems etc.) and less formal (thesauri, text records, web sources etc.). Ontologies are increasingly recognized as essential tools in information science.  Although the concepts are well understood theoretically , the practical implementation of ontologies remains challenging. In this book, researchers in computer science, information systems, ontology engineering, urban planning and design, civil and building engineering, and architecture present an interdisciplinary study of ontology engineering and its application in urban development projects.

The first part of the book introduces the general notion of ontology, describing variations in abstraction level, coverage, and formality. It also discusses the use of ontologies to achieve interoperability, and to represent multiple points of view and multilingualism. This is illustrated with examples from the urban domain.

The second part is specific to urban development. It covers spatial and geographical knowledge representation, the creation of urban ontologies from various knowledge sources, the interconnection of urban models and the interaction between standards and domain models.

The third part presents case studies of the development of ontologies for urban mobility, urban morphological processes, road systems, and cultural heritage. Other cases report on the use of ontologies to solve urban development problems, in construction business models, building regulations and urban regeneration. It concludes with a discussion of key challenges for the future deployment of ontologies in this domain.

This book bridges the gap between urban practitioners and computer scientists. As the essence of most urban projects lies in making connections between worldviews, ontology development has an important role to play, in promoting interoperability between data sources, both formal (urban databases, Building Integrated Models, Geographical Information Systems etc.) and less formal (thesauri, text records, web sources etc.). This volume offers a comprehensive introduction to ontology engineering for urban development. It is essential reading for practitioners and ontology designers working in urban development.

About the Author

ARTHUR E. JONGSMA, Jr., PhD, is the Series Editor for the bestselling PracticePlanners®. Since 1971, he has provided professional mental health services to both inpatient and outpatient clients. Originally published in 1981, Susan Meiselas' Nicaragua is a modern classic--a seminal contribution to the literature of concerned photojournalism. Yet unlike most photographs of such material, these refuse all the rhetoric normally associated with such pictures: The rhetoric of violence, revolutionary heroism and the glorification of misery." Nicaragua forms an extraordinary narrative of a nation in turmoil. Starting with a powerful and chilling evocation of the Somoza regime during its decline in the late 1970s, the images trace the evolution of the popular resistance that led to the insurrection, culminating with the triumph of the Sandinista revolution in 1979. The 2008 edition includes Pictures from a Revolution, a DVD in which Meiselas returns to the scenes she originally photographed, tirelessly tracking down the subjects and interviewing them about the reality of post-revolution Nicaragua. The DVD booklet features a new interview with Meiselas in which she discusses the history of the project.
Susan Meiselas, born in Baltimore in 1948, received her BA from Sarah Lawrence College and her MA from Harvard University. Her first book, the classic Carnival Strippers, was published in 1976. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Hasselblad Foundation Photography Prize (1994) and the International Center of Photography's Infinity Award (2005). Her work has been exhibited at the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Art Institute of Chicago. A member of Magnum Photos, Meiselas was named a MacArthur Fellow in 1992. She lives in New York.

Exceptional combat photojournalism

Another photojournalist in Central America at the same time as Susan Meiselas and I told me that he and Susan would be on the same street corner at the same time shooting the same scenes, and Susan's pictures would always come out better than his. She has an innate knack for indelibly capturing the moment:
the compressed rage of a guerrilla hurling a Molotov cocktail over a barricade; the anguish and terror of a teenaged widow trundling her husband's body in a wheelbarrow while threatened by an off-camera helicopter; the grim faces of the guerrillas, triumphant but by no means finished, as they continue their war into the future. A powerful, very graphic photo essay, best read from the beginning as it starts with the mind numbing poverty under the Somoza dictatorship, through the beginnings of the uprising by kids in blue jeans and bandannas with .22's, and then as the tide turned in favor of the Sandinistas (now heavily armed by Cuba), to final victory, with the grimy, hopeless faces of Somoza's men now tied up and awaiting beatings and possible execution. A bonus feature is a DVD of Susan's return to Nicaragua, to track down and interview the people she'd photographed over a decade before. The young widow, still wearing the same earrings as in her photo with her husband's body in the wheelbarrow, wept with disappointment that the revolution had failed to achieve dreams of a better life for the working class poor. I do have to comment that the DVD started breaking up about halfway through and became impossible to play. Nonetheless, I strongly reccommend that anyone with an interest in recent third world revolutions buy this gem before it's gone.

A Beautiful book and a major photographic piece of work.

Susan Meiselas reminds me of an FSA photographer of the thirties, independent, relentless and technically proficient, she worked her way around Nicaragua, skilled in the Spanish of the area, she was in the midst of a violent revolution, in which one photographer/correspondent was coldly executed. Obviously courageous, she exposed herself to potential serious injury or death. The prints in the book are of superb quality, and what makes this book really special is the attached DVD that shows how she revisited the people and the areas she photographed many years before. The video is moving, of the impoverished revolutionaries who had hoped for a better life, of the depressed and hungry wife, of the still young former soldier, missing part of one arm, who was disillusioned and frequently wept, of the very tough Indian woman, burying a man under fire at age 14 with little or no help. This is a very, very special book. Strongly recommended for anybody interested in photography and Latin American History.

The Real Deal

Growing up my mother told us stories of a Pinocchio from a different world-- Italy.
Years later it was not surprising to find that Disney who has a habit of taking dark, twisted children’s fairy tales and turning them into sweet happily-ever-afters had sweetened Pinocchio a bit too much! I wanted my children to discover the real Pinochhio, the one written by Carlo Collodi. Pinocchio is Italy’s most famous fairy tale, first published in 1883. Its author, Carlo Collodi, wrote a great deal for children but Pinocchio is the only one of Collodi’s tales to be translated into the English language. Carlo Collodi was born Carlo Lorenzini in Florence, Italy, in 1826. He took the Collodi from his mother’s birthplace. His father was a cook and his mother a domestic servant.
After a spell in the army, he took up journalism as a career and founded a political magazine which was quickly suppressed by the Italian government. He went on to work at other political newspapers as well as working for a censorship organization operating in theater.

And that my friend is the story behind the real "Pinocchio".

I use this book in an Italian-American Children's Program and the kids love it!

I sent the request in on Sunday and would have liked it by Tuesday, but I did not receive the product until Wednesday. Oh well, the product arrived on time (sort of) and in great condition.
