Definitley keep tabs with this guy

I agree with the other reviewer - Travis is a sure guy to keep an eye on for future works. I'm pretty sure as of writing this, he has a couple other things in the works (at least on his website), so there's YAY there.

This is a story of alien invasion/end of the world/humanity survival and he does an EXCELLENT job of portraying it. I was able to imagine clearly many of the things he described in the book, and none of it was excessively wordy (I'm looking at you Robert Jordan). I was always looking forward to picking up the kindle again to read this, and there was a point in the story where I just could not put it down and I think I read the last 25% of the book in one sitting (goodbye sleep!).

Definitely pick this one up. It's a good read!

A writer to keep an eye on!

OK, first up - "Alien Invasion of Earth" is one of those science fiction tropes that every new SF writer takes a shot at. Unlike many of the ones I have read in the past, THIS book is VERY DARN GOOD. It should not escape our notice, that the author is an experienced Military Officer, and understands what it MEANS to be in "the bad, the ugly and the crazy." - and to lead troops into the cauldron of war.

This book is well written, as well as internally consistent. Even if you've never been in combat - it should be apparent to you that Hightower HAS "been there and done that." - and he extrapolates that to a world in which the American Military is reduced to the relative status of Crazy Horse and his Lakota Warriors fighting the Current US Military.

It is not a book without SOME interior problems - but it is far better than some books I have read by much more experienced authors. It ends -somewhat abruptly - but with the strong possibility of a sequel. I do hope that Mr. Hightower will keep on writing, and give us more books of this caliber.

About the Author
Paul Yoder, Ph.D. is a Professor in Vanderbilt University's Department of Special Education. As the past director of the Observational and Quantitative Methods core for the Kennedy Center of Vanderbilt University, he has consulted for numerous single subject and group design researchers for over 20 years. He has conducted methodological studies and written methodological and measurement articles and chapters for both single subject and group design literatures. Among these are 3 simulation studies relevant to sequential analysis. He currently teaches a recurring course on observational measurement for doctoral level students at Vanderbilt and is frequently asked to provide workshops on various aspects of observational measurement, including sequential analysis. He has been and continues to be an active user of observational measurement in his research on early communication in children with disabilities.

The book was pretty basic and just like most nursing writing, it is very wordy when it may not be necessary. The section on delegation needs more relevance to practice, so instructors should not use it to teach the basics of delegation, maybe theory, but not practice. A separate resource is needed for that.

A must for all nurse leaders

What was it like?

The author manages to mix evidence-based guidelines with practice effectively. This textbook has been revised and updated to prepare the nurse for leadship. This textbook provides the reader with information to equip them with the tools that are required to accomplish NCLEX and to practice as a nurse. This as it states in the book is more than just a text book as it includes NCLEX- style questions and sample resumes. There is also a web link to activate the complete learning experience.

Highlights of this book:

Although written for the nurse in the states, this is extremely relevant to the nurse practicing in the UK. This is focused around the ever changing healthcare setting, and the today's aspects of patient care. I was particularly reassured to read that patient safety was included. The section headed understanding organisational structures- how can someone lead if there is no understanding as to how the organisation functions, staffing and the issues that need to be managed taking into consideration the variables and factoring this in. The section headed legal and ethical issues were invaluable for the reader. This book equips the manager to manage or the leader to lead. The suggested reading at the end of the chapters equips the nurse to read further into a subject.

Strengths & weaknesses:

This is written for the nurse practising in the states and to prepare them for NCLEX. It is written in the language of the states, but that should not hinder the nurse leading in the UK.
The book is researched and written well and has been revised and updated to ensure this is for today's leaders in nursing. Each chapter is set out well with realistic exercises and a research perspective. For both the nurse in the states and UK the glossary is valuable and is indexed well at the back.

Who should read it?
Although written primarily for the nurse in the states and NCLEX. This is apt for all nursing students and nurses who are working towards being in charge and management roles.

A Textbook that's Interesting

I got the Kindle "rented" version for 3 months - it's ridiculously priced to buy or to rent - obscene and they should be ashamed. That said - the book, while slow going, is absolutely fascinating. I would take this class again just to read the rest of the book that I missed!
It's updated fairly regularly every couple years it seems - I recommend it. Oh, and say goodbye to your money $ka-ching!$$

Please be advised that this version of the text does NOT have the same content as the US edition. The questions, while generally the same, differ slightly, as do the chapter introductions (which some questions are based off of). If you are looking for a cheap alternative to the US book and will be using it to answer questions in class, AVOID THIS VERSION.

HE IS ABLE TO BRING A DEEPER CLARITY OF THE SCRIPTURES WITH THE IMPARTATION OF THE MEANING OF WORDS IN GREEK THAT OPEN UP THE SCRIPTURES TO OURS HEARTS. THIS BOOK RESTORED MY FAITH IN MY DREAM. Great Approach to Creating / Managing A Wardrobe

If you are frustrated by the standard quizzes and capsule rules -- pick up this book.

Anuschka lays out a detailed approach to developing your personal wardrobe. She stresses that personal style is very different from being fashionable. She explains when a capsule makes sense, when a "curated" wardrobe makes sense, and how to blend both. Most importantly, she teaches you how to define your own clothing rules. She does not provide lists or pictures of what works together -- that's your homework. She does provide completed samples of each assignment. Do not purchase if you want a quick, do-it-in-one-afternoon guide. It was work; however, I have a clear set of personal rules, fabric preferences, and outfit formulas. Pieces a quick-capsule-approach guided me to discard or pack-away are now in purposeful use!

While Anuschka is exceptional on the wardrobe element, I was only able to follow everything based on previous work. I'd be a bit lost on color, personalized style words, and garment basics without the prior read of Bobbie Thomas, The Power of Style (similar approach with clearer guidance on personal style & color palettes), Nancy Nix-Rice, Looking Good Every Day (required text for FIT NY Image Consultants), and Jennifer Scott, Lessons From Madame Chic (light-hearted stories underscoring and explaining personal style, quality, upkeep, yep, no quizzes her either). For me, understanding the fundamentals allowed me to maximize Anuschka's approach.

Having read those books, Anuschka is exceptional at the final mechanics of building and updating a wardrobe that meets YOUR needs and style personality. Really, no book can do it all. The Curated Closet is the final piece to my personal style & wardrobe journey!

Best wardrobe overhaul method out there!

I've been doing capsule wardrobes and working on editing my closet for the last two years. Here's what I love about The Curated Closet, and why I think it's better than the other wardrobe overhaul methods I've tried:

First of all, none of it is cookie-cutter; it's about what works for YOU. It starts with a look at your current outfits (as opposed to pieces in your wardrobe). She asks you to take pictures of your outfits for two weeks and then looks at your FAVORITE outfits, that you felt the best in, and helps you analyze them to figure out WHY you love them and then build your whole wardrobe around those elements. This is different from every other challenge I've looked at, which have you look at all the clothes you WORE and build your wardrobe around the pieces you wore, which is NOT the same as building it around your favorite outfits. For me, I had a lot of favorite pieces, mixed with filler pieces that I only felt "meh" about, and consequently only felt okay about the outfits, even though they had some of my favorite pieces. No more "meh"!!!

Walking away from this book I am purging a good chunk of my wardrobe (again; I'm down to less than 40 items now) but now have a clear set of guidelines for building it back up. I have a color palette, a couple of go-to outfit formulas, and a very specific but concise shopping list, of what I want to add, in order of priority. I finally feel like I've reached an end-goal and don't need to purge anymore! All that's left is to find the few pieces on my shopping list, and enjoy finally having my ideal wardrobe. Helpful, grounded and a delight to read!

A delight to read & very, very helpful.

I started paying attention to my style about 4 years ago... and it was a messy first couple of years. Two years ago, I fell in love with the capsule wardrobe concept. It completely transformed the way I shopped, thought about clothes and got dressed in the morning. Love it! I'm now transitioning into a wardrobe that is less structured and even more awesome -- and this book was so helpful and illuminating.

The things that I especially loved include the styling challenges (it really opened my eyes about what I can do with my closet -- and what I was missing from an accessories standpoint), the tips on how to buy quality (it instantly made me a better shopper) and the detailed information on choosing a color pallet. I'm taking a step away from my historical color pallet this fall and this book made me feel more confident in those choices.

Overall, a delightful read and a sane, resonant voice to guide you through dressing in a way that is more "you" and less everyone else.

Downsides: the styles displayed in the book just didn't resonate with me (I love saturated color... and they seemed to be very summery) -- but it really wasn't an impact.
